Hello! Remember in the Summer when I bound those sketchbooks? Well they were for the BBC production of Sebastian Faulks' Birdsong which airs this sunday on BBC1. Every time Eddie Redmayne's character does a drawing of Clemence Poesy, Joe Mawle or trees, wounded limbs and dead bodies that's me! I did those drawings.

I will post up some scans of the work after the show has been on- no spoilers!- and I will post some screenshots as well I expect! I am very excited to see it on screen, it was a lot of hard work!

I got a new job in October, working in my local comic shop! I got the job 'cause (a) they needed a girl to balance out all the testosterone generated by Mikey and Steve and (b) I can paint comic characters on the windows!

Little did they know before they hired me I have a hormone imbalance and am more masculine than both of my coworkers put together and I can only paint BATMAN characters! Ha ha ha ha!!! I painted the Joker in my first week and he's still there, for Christmas I painted Bats with Harley and Ivy, I scraped that one off this week, what should I paint next? Answers on postcards to Travelling Man, Goodramgate, York.

'The Mind's Eye' is an illustration exhibition that opened yesterday at Janette Ray Rare Books in York, the bookshop has been transformed into a very swish little gallery.

Yes I do still go to life drawing every week, I don't think I've been very good lately that's all. Yesterday we drew Anya and Cordelia, we did four twenty minute poses, this was the last one and in my case the only one that was any good. Cordelia was an excellent baby model, she didn't cry and she only wiggled a little bit.

I made my ex partner in crime Kirandeep a comic to celebrate the end of Harry Potter, after ten years of "studying" we finally graduated, Draco got a better Pokemon and we won the Hogwarts House of Excellence Cup all over again. Wiggedy-whack!

I tried to find the most normal bit of the comic, this is a reference to how Tom Felton has looked like Jonathan Pryce since the Chamber of Secrets and aged-up at the end of Deathly Hallows he might as well have been Jonathan.

I have been working on an important top secret commission for an upcoming big BBC drama. I have produced (and am still producing) lots of pastel and chalk drawings to be used in lead character's sketchbooks, I will possibly be doing some handwritten letters to be used as props as well. And I made these sketchbooks! I don't think it's a spoiler to put a photo of them up so it's the only thing I'm posting until after the air date (which will be next easter probably!).

These are five hand bound navy leather and heritage buckram sketchbooks with 25 sheets of loose leaf pastel paper, bound with brown leather ties.

I can bind books! These books looks bloody amazing, I'm more excited at seeing them on screen that the drawings! I had a one day bookbinding lesson on my foundation course, it's the best skill I've ever learned and I use it all the time! I've got so much material left I feel I should make loads of these and sell them on etsy or something. I'll probably just end up giving them to my pals though!

Yesterday Dr Sketchy invaded York. At several different location a whistle was blown, a scantily glad lady appeared and we (the artmonkeys) ran over and started sketching. We started in the Museum Gardens next to the ruins of St Mary's Abbey, then moved to the front of the City Art Gallery, the fountain in Parliament Street, the steps of York Minster (where we were told to shove off) and finally The Purple Man leant us his bike for a quick five minute pose.

Here are the ones I did that I liked. The first one is my favourite sketch of the day and does not feature our model, this middle-aged couple were at the art gallery but moved as soon as Georgia appeared.

A couple of massive charcoal sketches of Craig. 45 mins for each. I dropped my drawings on the way home and a load of drunk guys went "Ho ho! Nice!!" as they unfurled, I then pointed out they were drawings of a naked man and they were awkwardly embarrassed, "Uh, not that nice then..."

Without proper paper or scanner or editing program I whipped up a test piece today. I need to work on how I'm drawing Bertie's nose, it's far too big here and his face is looking a bit too creepy, have to tone down the eyebrows methinks. Is Jeeves too handsome? I think he is a bit. A specific dream rabbit, you might say.

I am currently illustrating a short P.G. Wodehouse. Now that I'm finally good enough at drawing, I am drawing what I was always meant to draw: Jeeves!

It's the one where Bingo falls in love with the cafe girl and Jeeves comes up with the Rosie M. Banks scheme... You know the one!!

Above are some sketches, the top one is the first appearance of Bertie, who I have given curly hair, he's a sort of JJ Feild/Anthony Andrews type. Second down is Bingo taking Bertie to the dive where Mabel works, Bertie is not impressed by squalor. After that is Jeeves dancing with Mabel while Bingo falls in love with her. Then him sighing and swooning over cold ham and veal pie *shudder!* Finally Bertie reacting to the menu- my favourite expression of his, disgust.

I blame the fact that I felt under the weather all day- until I got to Life Drawing that is, which made me feel a lot better!- but I can't remember the model's name! I think it was Holly... But I'm not sure. Anyway, I had great fun at Life Drawing tonight, much better than the six hours I spent sleeping all day, despite the fact I had an early night and had done nothing to make me so tired... I am now going to pencil out some more pages for the dog book in preparation for painting tomorrow and watch a film. That may sound like a nothing to you, but trust me, that's a working-night. If I hadn't forced myself out of bed for the class I would still be snoozing right now.
What the hair might have looked like if I'd have got round to finishing it- and if it had been done it in under two seconds on photoshop. I like painting people's portraits. Lauren, would you like a portrait? ... of me?

Kate's first time life modeling! She done great. I can say this because I produces two TWO really nice drawings this week and I didn't even have to resize the head! Here is a close up of the first study, I sneakily overheard Kate say to Greg that mine was the one that most looked like her face. (Napoleon Dynamite style "Yesssssssssssss!")

Nice second study quite similar to my first week, but I didn't want to move my easel, and drop it on the naked girl as is my klutzy way.

Life Draw Week 1/10

Week one of my life drawing class last night! I also went to the first York Dr Sketchy's afterwards and drew some awful pictures which I gave to the saucy model rather than keep to scan in, I think I'd used all my drawing-power up in the class... Bit by bit I've managed to scan in this massive pic and then stick it all together. I used charcoal for the first time in like eight years. Fun! Except I got it all over my face and no one told me.

45 mins for the top one and 30 for the second. I made Milly like four sizes bigger than she is in the second drawing which is why I concentrated on her face (which is sad because she has been drawn as a massive heffer) instead of working into the HUGE body.

Bleak Expectations, Vol 4

Series four of Bleak Expectations has recently been broadcast on BBC Radio4, I had the honour of being invited to the recording of a couple of episodes after some people involved stumbled onto my drawings. The first one I did was the combined 53 characters from series one and two, I then did all from series three and this week I have completed series four! Harrumble!! Sorry it's so teensy! Here's a bit of detail for you; Pippa and Mr Benevo-hunky carrying a cheese bomb on the back of Clive the Welsh dragon.

I'm getting fed up of DeviantART, we all are. Maybe I've grown out of it, maybe it's a 15-25 thing and now I am out of the loop and don't actually care any more.

So I'm going to post drawings as I do them here, that's what all the cool kids seem to be doing! That way my overseas buddies can actually see what I'm up to like I see what they're up to!

I'm going to be doing some work today so I will hopefully post something later, but to kick off I thought I'd post the most recent thing I've done, which is a drawing of the Ashes to Ashes team.

I'm an illustrator by the way, that's my job. At least, that's the work-in-progress plan!
